Mauricio Ruffy produced one of the most emotional moments of UFC Freedom 250, turning a huge win over Michael Chandler into a marriage proposal moments later.
The Brazilian lightweight had already delivered inside the cage at the UFC White House event, stopping Chandler in the first round for the biggest victory of his career.
Then he used the spotlight for something far more personal.
Mauricio Ruffy proposes to Nadine after UFC White House win
As UFC on Paramount+ showed, Ruffy explained through his translator why the moment meant so much: “A while ago when I met my wife Nadine, I really wanted to ask her to marry me,” he said via his translator. “But we didn’t have the money and didn’t have the conditions. Now, what better place to ask my wife to get married?”
Ruffy then turned the post-fight interview into a proposal, asking Nadine to marry him in front of the crowd after winning on one of the strangest and most high-profile UFC stages ever built.
Nadine accepted with a thumbs up, giving the night its sweetest image after a violent finish in the cage.
Public details about their relationship are limited. Reports identify Nadine as Ruffy’s girlfriend or partner, while Ruffy himself referred to her as his wife during the emotional speech.
What is clear is that they had been together long enough for him to remember wanting to propose when money was tighter. That backstory is why the moment landed so strongly.
Ruffy stuns Michael Chandler before emotional proposal
The proposal only worked because Ruffy had just made a serious statement against Chandler.
Ruffy finished the former title challenger by first-round TKO, with reports listing the stoppage at 4:29 after he hurt Chandler and closed the show with strikes.
Chandler entered as the bigger name, but Ruffy looked sharp, dangerous, and composed under the pressure of the White House setting.
