Max Verstappen is swapping Formula One machinery for a go-kart in a race that will see the four-time world champion attempt to overtake 100 drivers at Silverstone.
Titled Max vs 100, the closed race will take place at the British circuit on 16 September 2026, with Verstappen starting from the back of the grid and attempting to pass every competitor before the chequered flag.
The field brings together drivers from across sport, entertainment and online culture. Among those taking part are ultrarunner Arda Saatçi, basketball shooting specialist Chris “Lethal Shooter” Matthews and freestyle mountain biker Matt Jones, alongside streamers including TheGrefg, Caedrel and TheDonato. Content creators, personalities and fans from around the world will also join the grid.
For Verstappen, the event marks a return to the discipline where his racing career began. He started karting at four and was competing in championships by seven, eventually winning multiple European and world titles before moving into single-seater racing and Formula One.
The circuit for the event has been specially designed by French racing driver and kart designer David Terrien, a former youth karting world champion. The layout has been created to accommodate 100 drivers simultaneously, making traffic management and overtaking central to the challenge.
A preliminary test involving 50 karts highlighted the difficulty ahead. Test driver Sebastian Job, a two-time iRacing World Champion, described overtaking that many competitors within the allotted time as a significant challenge.
Verstappen, meanwhile, appears to be approaching the unusual format with a sense of humour. Asked what he was most looking forward to, his answer was simply: “Just seeing the carnage unfold in front of me.”
The race will feature live data, game-inspired graphics and aerial footage, while Verstappen will also be able to communicate directly with competitors during the race.
Max vs 100 will be streamed globally on Disney+ on 16 September 2026.
