MBSA Says Upgrades Underway Following Complaints Over Lack of Walkways at LRT3 Shah Alam Stations

The post MBSA Says Upgrades Underway Following Complaints Over Lack of Walkways at LRT3 Shah Alam Stations appeared first on WORLD OF BUZZ.

Several LRT3 stations in Shah Alam began operating without proper pedestrian walkways to nearby neighbourhoods, offices, shopping centres, and public facilities.

As a result, commuters have had to navigate roads with limited sidewalks, cross busy intersections, or take longer, less direct routes.

Shah Alam City Council explains what’s being done

In response to public feedback, which went viral on TikTok, the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has clarified that pedestrian connectivity has always been part of the station development plans. During the planning approval process in 2019, MBSA required pedestrian walkways to connect stations with surrounding developments.

However, many of these connections depend on separate construction projects by developers and government agencies, meaning they are being completed in stages.

As of now, the Dato’ Menteri Station will receive covered pedestrian walkways, at least five feet wide, to connect the station with:

  • Shah Alam Convention Centre (SACC)
  • Kompleks PKNS
  • Persiaran Bandaraya up to Maybank

These walkways are expected to be completed by September 2026.

As for the Stadium Shah Alam Station, approved plans require pedestrian walkways linking to:

  • Jalan Lontar Peluru 13/39
  • Jalan Tukul Besi 13/41 Persiaran Sukan near Management and Science University (MSU)

Existing walkways from Jalan Tukul Besi to the former stadium relocation site will also be upgraded.

Immediate Improvements

In its statement last night (1 July), MBSA said it recognised that commuters need safer access now. Here’s what is being improved immediately:

  • A 200-metre pedestrian walkway will be built within one month, connecting Stadium Shah Alam Station to the traffic lights at the Persiaran Sukan/Persiaran Akuatik intersection.
  • For the connection from Persiaran Akuatik to AEON Mall, MBSA is in the process of appointing a contractor to upgrade the crossing and complete the pedestrian route.

MBSA says it will continue working closely with relevant agencies and developers to complete pedestrian connections at all LRT3 stations within Shah Alam.
