THE Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) is investigating online content published by China Press, which allegedly contains an incorrect translation of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's royal address during the opening ceremony of Parliament yesterday.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the investigation was conducted following an official complaint from the public.
The investigation is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which is improper use of network facilities or communication services that may cause confusion, public annoyance, or affect harmony.
"If there is a police report made by any party, the matter is separate and will be handed over entirely to the Royal Malaysian Police authorities to conduct an investigation based on existing legal provisions," he said.
At the same time, Fahmi urged the Malaysian Media Council to play a role in ensuring that journalistic ethics are adhered to, encouraging responsible and accurate reporting.
In addition, he also advised the public not to make excessive or defamatory comments, especially on social media.
"And always respect the institution of the monarchy and give space to the ongoing legal process," he said. – January 26, 2026
