Megaworld development cited by Lapu-Lapu City

MEGAWORLD Corp.’s 30-hectare The Mactan Newtown in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, has been declared the city’s “Tourism, Culture, and Investment Capital” under an executive order recognizing the township’s role in attracting visitors, businesses and investments.

Executive Order 2026-072, signed by Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Ma. Cynthia Chan, cited the township’s contributions to tourism, cultural activities, employment and economic development, Megaworld said in a statement.

“The recognition affirms our continuing vision for The Mactan Newtown as an integrated township that demonstrates how tourism, culture, and investments can come together to unlock a city’s potential, create more opportunities for its people, and strengthen its position as a destination for both visitors and businesses,” Megaworld President and CEO Lourdes Gutierrez-Alfonso said.

The development combines residential condominiums, office spaces, hotels, retail and commercial establishments, and tourism and recreational facilities.

It also hosts festivals and sporting events, including the Cebu Mangoes Festival, Ironman 70.3 Mactan, and Cebu Lechon Festival.

The township has more than 1,000 hotel rooms across Savoy Hotel Mactan Newtown and Mercure Mactan Cebu.

It is also home to Mactan Expo, a convention center that hosted leaders of Southeast Asian nations and other delegates during the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations Summit earlier this year.

Megaworld said the development also attracts businesses through its office and commercial spaces, including Gordon Ramsay Fish & Chips and Gordon Ramsay Street Burger, dining concepts associated with British celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay.

Under the executive order, the city government and Megaworld will work with public and private stakeholders on initiatives covering tourism, cultural activities, investment, employment and sustainable local development.

Megaworld’s share price fell by a centavo to close at P2.22 each on Tuesday.
