MERALCO said Thursday its crews will be on standby around the clock to respond to power service concerns across its franchise area during All Saints’ Day (Nov. 1) and All Souls’ Day (Nov. 2).
Joe Zaldarriaga, the utility’s vice president and head of corporate communications, reminded customers leaving home for the long weekend to turn off and unplug appliances and avoid overloading outlets through “octopus” connections, or plugging multiple devices into a single outlet.
It also advised the public to keep electrical wires and equipment dry, avoid running cords under rugs or carpets, and keep flammable materials away from outdoor lights and other heat sources.
Meralco said its facilities, systems and response teams are also prepared for potentially higher electricity demand as temperatures rise amid the El Niño warm weather pattern.
Zaldarriaga encouraged customers to conserve energy and use electricity efficiently to help manage consumption and bills.
Meralco Business Centers will be closed on Nov. 1 and 2, but customers can still contact the utility through its digital channels, social media accounts and hotline 16211 (dial 02 16211 from landline or mobile), Zaldarriaga said.
