
MANILA, Philippines — Meralco took control of the game behind the trio of import Marvin Jones, CJ Cansino and Chris Newsome to clobber Converge, 109-88, to kick off its PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup campaign on a high note on Wednesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Jones scattered 29 points and grabbed eight rebounds, Cansino added 23 and eight boards, while Newsome chipped in 19, highlighted by five triples for the Bolts.
Meralco seized control of the game for good after outscoring Converge, 87-61 in the last three quarters.
The Bolts held the FiberXers to just 38 percent shooting from the field, while they showed better team play with 26 assists.
The loss was Converge’s second straight, just days after absorbing a 100-111 shock loss to Terrafirma in overtime.
The FiberXers opened the conference with a win against the Magnolia Hotshots.
Alec Stockton and Justin Arana led Converge with 18 and 16 points, import Kylor Kelly had 13 and 12 rebounds in.
