Police hunt a Mexican ‘Batman’ vigilante after suspected thieves were tied to lampposts in a public display in Jalisco.
A MAN dubbed the “Batman” of a Mexican town is being sought by police after allegedly tracking down suspected motorbike thieves and tying them to lampposts, according to reports.
At least five men were found duct-taped to streetlight poles over a 10-day period beginning June 13 in the Lagos de Moreno area of Jalisco, according to The Sun.
Photographs shared by Mexican journalist Luis Cárdenas on X showed some of the men with markings on their faces, including moustaches, cat whiskers, and the Spanish word for “thief”.
The vigilante, referred to by Cárdenas as the “Batman of Lagos de Moreno”, is also believed to have left the allegedly stolen motorcycles near the restrained men as a form of public display of the alleged crimes.
In one image, two men can be seen taped back-to-back to a lamppost, with a pink sign placed above them and a motorcycle positioned in front.
Authorities said the restrained individuals are being treated as victims while efforts continue to identify and apprehend the vigilante.
State Security Secretary Juan Pablo Hernández was quoted as saying that police are actively pursuing the suspect.
The men were later freed and received medical attention for their injuries. It remains unclear whether they are also being investigated in connection with the alleged thefts.
No arrests have been made so far, although investigators have reportedly identified two vehicles believed to be linked to the incidents.
