Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra has gone viral after delivering a blunt response to critics following Bam Adebayo’s historic 83-point performance.
The Heat star produced one of the greatest scoring nights in NBA history, surpassing Kobe Bryant’s famous 81-point game.
Spoelstra was asked about the backlash surrounding the performance and made it clear he had no interest in apologizing.

Erik Spoelstra addressed the criticism after Bam Adebayo’s record-breaking performance in comments shared online, including in a clip posted on X showing the Heat coach defending his star player.
“I apologize to absolutely no one. Period. You know, going into the game, it’s a Tuesday night game, against a team where they’re not playing for anything, the organization is trying to lose,” Spoelstra said.
The Miami center’s performance stunned the NBA world as he finished with 83 points, breaking Kobe Bryant’s 81-point game from 2006 and recording the second-highest total in league history behind Wilt Chamberlain’s 100-point night.
Despite the historic achievement, some critics questioned the circumstances of the game and whether the Heat should have continued feeding Adebayo late in the contest. Spoelstra made it clear he had no issue with how the game unfolded.

Spoelstra also explained why he encouraged Adebayo to stay aggressive during the game as the historic performance continued to build.
“They’ve already lost the game in that kind of situation,” Coach Spo stated. “We have players that are sitting out, and I spoke to Bam about wanting our best player and team captain, for him, to be locked in and ready. He sure was.”
The Heat coach suggested that the situation of the game played a role in how Miami approached the closing stretch.
With the opposing team already out of contention in the matchup, Spoelstra wanted his team captain to remain focused and maintain his competitive approach.
That decision ultimately resulted in one of the most remarkable individual scoring nights in NBA history.
