Midnight earthquake shakes Gerik as tremors felt across parts of Perak

A WEAK earthquake measuring magnitude 3.4 struck the Temenggor area in Gerik, Perak, at 12.06am today, prompting reports of tremors in several nearby locations.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the earthquake occurred at a depth of 10 kilometres at coordinates 5.5 degrees north and 101.3 degrees east.

The epicentre was detected approximately nine kilometres north-east of Hulu Perak.

Tremors were reported to have been felt in several areas around Gerik.

However, there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries resulting from the earthquake.

MetMalaysia said it would continue monitoring the situation and issue further updates should there be any new developments. - August 28, 2026
