SHAH ALAM – Malaysia’s emerging tennis talent, Mikaela Zahri, has achieved another major milestone in her young career after winning the girls’ under-16 singles title at the National Tennis Championships, held at the Perak Tennis Arena in Ipoh.
The 13-year-old secured the championship with a straight-sets victory of 6-3, 6-4 in the final, overcoming a field of older and more experienced opponents throughout the tournament.
Despite her age, Mikaela demonstrated remarkable consistency and composure under pressure, particularly in crucial points during the match.
Her performance throughout the competition reflected a player playing beyond her years, both tactically and mentally.
Her coach and father, Kevin Zahri, said the result reflects steady progress rather than a finished milestone.
“Beyond the title, what matters is her development – how she is improving in decision-making, discipline and confidence on court.
“Training and competing in Europe have greatly contributed to her growth, but this is just another step in a long journey
“Our focus remains on her long-term development as both an athlete and an individual,” he said.
The win adds to Mikaela’s growing list of junior achievements and comes as she prepares for upcoming Tennis Europe, ATF and ITF Junior competitions in the 2026 season.
Mikaela Zahri is a 13-year-old Malaysian junior tennis player competing in both national and international circuits, including Tennis Europe, ATF, and ITF Junior tournaments and is regarded as one of the country’s emerging young prospects.
Her development has included extended training periods in Europe, where she has competed in junior events across countries such as Slovakia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
