Mike Tyson has suffered an injury in training as he gears up for his next fight.

The former world champion has not been in the ring since his points loss to Jake Paul in November 2024.

Tyson is expected to face Floyd Mayweather in a one-off bout scheduled for 25 April in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Tyson spoke with longtime MMA journalist Ariel Helwani on Wednesday, when he was spotted with a black cast on his right hand.

The 59-year-old then explained how the injury occurred.

“Training. Punching stuff,” he said before adding, “It’s just a little sprain. I’ve gotta go hard. It’s the only way I know how to go.”

Tyson remained confident that his scheduled bout against ‘Money’ Mayweather would still take place next month, stating: “That’s something I’ve signed for already. It’s going to be going down in Africa.”

When pressed about whether the injury could affect his participation, Tyson responded more cautiously, simply saying: “We’ll see.”

Tyson on his final fight plans

After his defeat to Paul, Tyson considered the possibility of retiring from boxing.

The former heavyweight champion thinks his bout with Mayweather might be his final one.

But Tyson’s competitive nature makes it hard for him to fully commit to walking away.

“I think it’s gonna be my last [fight],” Tyson said when speaking with Helwani about the topic.

“But we’ll see.”
