Mike Tyson has spoken about where things stand with his possible fight against Floyd Mayweather.

Late last year, the idea of a Mayweather vs. Tyson exhibition was officially put forward, though many were sceptical about whether it would actually happen.

The exhibition, according to ‘Iron Mike’, was subsequently scheduled for 25 April in Africa, specifically in the Congo.

However, Mayweather then scheduled another exhibition and a professional rematch against Manny Pacquiao, raising further doubts about whether his fight with the 59-year-old would move forward as planned.

Mike Tyson says his fight against Floyd Mayweather is still set to take place

‘Money’ Mayweather is lined up for an exhibition bout with Mike Zambidis on June 27, followed by his much-anticipated rematch with Manny Pacquiao.

In between those dates, Tyson has confirmed that their fight is still on, even though he is currently dealing with an injury that has him in a cast.

‘Iron Mike’ told combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani: “Ay, listen, that’s something I signed for already, it’s already going down, it’s gonna be going down in Africa.

“I believe so (that it is happening on April 25)… It’s just free fighting, catchweight, everything, eight (rounds) I believe.”

He went on to share that the bout will be held in the same ring where Muhammad Ali and George Foreman fought their iconic Rumble in the Jungle match back in 1974.

“It’s gonna be pretty interesting, I’m looking forward to it, yes. Yes, I was over there and it’s gonna be in the same ring that Muhammad Ali and George Foreman was in, yes (the exact same ring), yes.”

The Rumble in the Jungle between Muhammad Ali and George Foreman is not just remembered as one of the biggest fights in boxing history – it was also a cultural moment. Holding Tyson vs Mayweather in the same ring would be quite the throwback to that iconic event.
