Social media users had a lot to say about Mike Vrabel and his wife, Jen Vrabel as they headed to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding in midtown Manhattan Friday evening — months after the New England Patriots’ head coach was the center of allegations of an extramarital affair with a reporter.
Marking their first public appearance since photos of Vrabel cozying up with reporter Dianna Russini at a resort were published by the NY Post’s Page Six, the outlet obtained shots of the Vrabels entering a New York City hotel Friday.
Hours later, the long-married couple exited the hotel in black-tie attire, reportedly headed to the Madison Square Garden wedding of the pop superstar and Kansas City Chiefs tight end.
Earlier this year, Vrabel, 50, sought counseling after Page Six published the photos of him and the also-married Russini, 43, then a reporter for The Athletic, together at a luxury retreat. Though the two denied allegations of an affair, Russini resigned from her position shortly before the New York Post published older photos of the two kissing.
Upon seeing Mike and Jen Vrabel together, people online commented on the couple’s disposition, with sports writer Scott Kacsmar saying, “... this looks like they’re getting in a car for a funeral procession. Not a smile in sight.”
“And he didn't even acknowledge her existence in opening that door and getting in,” Kacsmar noted in response to a Page Six video of the Vrables entering a car together.
In the video, Mike Vrabel, wearing a black suit, walks ahead of his wife and enters a car. Seconds later, Jen Vrabel, wearing a light blue dress, enters the car.
Online, people accused the coach of being less than husbandly toward his wife.
Barstool Sports staffer Connor Crehan wrote on X: “How about you let your wife get in first pal. Geez. Some manners maybe.”
Polymarket’s Football X account wrote: “Things seem awkward between Mike Vrabel and his wife Jen as they head to Travis Kelce’s wedding.”
Other people joked about the couple attending the Swift-Kelce wedding.
Sports reporter Gabriela Carroll joked on social media, “Stayed with him to keep the wedding invite, fair enough.”
DraftKings content creator Lucy Burdge wrote: “Mike Vrabel’s wife staying married just to go to this wedding is genius.”
Stars from the sports and entertainment industry flocked to the New York City arena Friday evening to celebrate Swift and Kelce’s wedding. Though Mike Vrabel never coached Kelce, he and his wife appeared to have made the guest list cut.
