KENINGAU: The Local Government and Housing Ministry will evaluate and review the allowance rates for district council chairmen and members across the state.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Arif said the assessment is important given the crucial role played by council members in assisting district-level development.
He noted that the ministry's permanent secretary will refine the evaluation before the findings are presented to the State Cabinet for consideration.
Speaking after officiating the swearing-in ceremony for Keningau, Tambunan, and Tenom district council members on Tuesday, Arifin added that attention will also be given to the need for urban planning officers and qualified engineers in every local authority to strengthen technical and development management.
He reminded all appointed council members to carry out their duties with transparency and trust to ensure efficient local administration for the benefit of the public.
