Missing boy found dead in Selangor river as two teenagers feared drowned in Terengganu

AN 11-year-old boy who was reported missing after allegedly falling into a river near the New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) in Damansara Damai has been found dead following an overnight search operation.

The body of Paulus Amsal Jimri was discovered this morning about 1.9 kilometres from the location where he was initially reported missing near Menara Finas.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said the victim’s body was found along the riverbank near Jalan Welfare, Kampung Baru Sungai Buloh.

“The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department operations centre received an emergency call through the MERS999 line at 10am today informing us of the discovery of a young boy’s body at the location,” he said in a statement.

“The Water Rescue Team successfully retrieved the victim at 10.47am before officers from the Ministry of Health confirmed his death at 11am,” he added.

Ahmad Mukhlis said the victim was later identified by family members before the body was handed over to police for further action.

He explained that the first day of search operations yesterday involved surface-search techniques covering a two-kilometre radius, but rescuers failed to locate the boy before the operation was suspended at 9pm because of darkness and safety concerns.

Search operations resumed this morning with teams combing riverbanks from Paya Jaras Hilir Bridge to Merbau Sempak Bridge before the victim was eventually found.

The operation involved personnel from the Sungai Buloh Fire and Rescue Station with assistance from the Shah Alam Fire and Rescue Station.

The child had earlier been listed under the Royal Malaysia Police’s Nur Alert system after a missing persons report was lodged at the Kota Damansara police station yesterday.

Meanwhile in Terengganu, another river tragedy unfolded in Dungun after two teenage boys were feared drowned while swimming in Sungai Paka near Kampung Beril earlier today.

The victims were identified as 15-year-old Mohamad Amir Ashraf Mohd Zulnaidi, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Agama Durian Guling in Marang, and 14-year-old Mohd Aidil Amsar Mohd Zulnaidi from SMK Paka.

According to the Fire and Rescue Department, authorities received an emergency call at 11.19am before a rescue team from the Paka Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene six minutes later.

Operations commander Mohd Rizuan Ramli said the incident involved four teenage boys who had gone to the river to swim at about 10.30am.

“Two victims managed to save themselves, while the other two are believed to have disappeared in the river and search operations are actively ongoing,” he said.

The two survivors were identified as Mohd Farish Iqbal Cik Mohana Runasdi, 14, from SMK Paka and Mohd Afi Naashif Adli Noone, 15.

The search-and-rescue operation involves 15 firefighters from the Paka Fire and Rescue Station with assistance from the Kerteh Fire and Rescue Station and the Water Rescue Team from the Chukai Fire and Rescue Station.

Rescue teams are currently conducting riverbank searches while specialist divers continue underwater operations in an effort to locate the missing teenagers.

Authorities said search efforts were ongoing and further updates would be issued as operations progressed. - May 24, 2026
