MANILA, Philippines — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) honored a food delivery rider-turned-cyclist after he set a new Philippine record in the men’s elite sprint at the 2026 Asian Track Cycling Championships with a time of 10.865 seconds.

In a statement, the MMDA said Chairman Don Artes and General Manager Nicolas Torre III fully supported Filipino athletes who showed dedication, hard work, determination and the potential to compete with other countries.

Torre as an advocate of cycling and bike-to-work mobility, joined Artes in recognizing Zedrick Ivan Honorica’s achievement.

According to the MMDA, Honorica was a delivery rider who had been in cycling for only about a year before earning a chance to join the national tryouts.

It added that despite limited resources and using only a simple bicycle, Honorica quickly stood out for his speed and talent.

That early promise, the MMDA said, opened the door for him to enter international competition.
