Police footage shows the arrest of a murderer obsessed with Dexter, who killed a woman after luring her to a rented room in Sandwell, West Midlands.
Benjamin Day, 20, of Yeadon Close, Redditch, had been studying forensic science at university. He became fixated on the US television drama and killed 24-year-old Maria Saceanu after luring her to a plastic-lined room where he stabbed her to death.
Day pleaded guilty to murdering Ms Saceanu. He has been remanded in custody and faces a mandatory life sentence when he is sentenced on 4 December.
Detective Inspector Matt Marston said: “It was a pre-planned brutal attack on a defenceless woman lured to the room he had rented.
“The details of this case shocked experienced officers, and our thoughts continue to go out to the heartbroken family of Maria at this time.”
