The weekend is not officially over, yet your mind has already travelled to Monday morning. You start thinking about unfinished tasks, overflowing emails, meetings, deadlines, and that familiar alarm clock you wish you could ignore for just five more minutes.

Funny enough, nothing has actually happened yet, but somehow, you already feel tired.

Why does Monday feel like a problem before the day has even begun?

Perhaps it is because we have slowly trained ourselves to associate happiness with the weekend. Friday evenings feel like freedom, Saturdays feel like a reward, and Sundays become a countdown to returning to reality. Before we know it, we are spending five days waiting for two days of happiness.

And honestly, that is something worth thinking about.

For many of us, Monday blues are not necessarily about being lazy or lacking ambition. Sometimes, it is the exhaustion of repeating the same routine without having enough time to recover. We wake up early, rush through traffic, complete our responsibilities, return home tired, and prepare to do everything again the next day.

Somewhere along the way, we forget that we are human beings, not machines programmed to perform continuously.

What makes it even more interesting is that not everyone experiences Monday the same way. For someone who enjoys their work, Monday might represent a fresh opportunity. But for someone struggling with workplace pressure, an unsupportive environment, or an overwhelming workload, the same Monday can feel like carrying an invisible weight.

Perhaps the problem is not always Monday itself. Perhaps it is what we have come to associate with it.

But here is what I am still trying to figure out: why do we accept feeling miserable for most of the week as a normal part of adulthood?

Of course, we cannot expect every working day to be exciting. Responsibilities are unavoidable, and not every job will bring us happiness every single day. Sometimes, we simply have to show up and do what needs to be done.

However, I believe there is a difference between having a difficult day and living a life we constantly need to escape from.

Maybe we need to stop treating weekends as our only opportunity to feel alive. A quiet breakfast before work, a short evening walk, a conversation with someone we love, or simply having time to ourselves can make an ordinary weekday feel a little less overwhelming.

These small moments will not magically solve every problem, but they remind us that our lives are happening now, not just on Saturdays and Sundays.

Until we figure out how to create a healthier balance between work and life, perhaps we can start by asking ourselves a simple question: are we building a life we enjoy, or are we simply counting down the days until we can rest?

Because life is too short to spend five days surviving just to feel happy for two. πŸ’™
