Kota Kinabalu: Problem-riddled Parti Gemilang Anak Sabah (GAS) may be entering a new crisis with Founder-President Datu Mohd Sayadi Bakal declaring the party’s recent Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) as invalid.

Mohd Sayadi said the EGM called to form a new committee and amend the party constitution violated GAS’ rules.

“The minutes of the meeting, the new committee line-up and proposed amendments are deemed invalid,” he said.

He said only committee members officially registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS) are recognised and warned members not to misuse the party’s name or claim positions without proper verification.

The new development follows earlier allegations of corruption within the party.

Dato’ Jismit Japong, who insisted he is the rightful President said several senior leaders were suspended or sacked for demanding money from those who wanted to be candidates, ranging from RM250 to RM700.

“We do not charge any fees for candidate applications,” Jismit said, condemning the misconduct and affirming disciplinary actions under Clause 5.6 of the party constitution.

These have raised doubts about GAS’ readiness to contest 55 State seats in the coming election. Jismit also said he believed he has a good chance of being the next Chief Minister.

The party’s official launch, originally scheduled for Sept.  21, has been postponed amid the ongoing turmoil.
