A mother and daughter died after their motorcycle collided with a car on Jalan Batu 23, Jalan Labuk in Sandakan

SANDAKAN: A mother and her seven-year-old daughter were killed in a road accident along Jalan Batu 23, Jalan Labuk here.

The daughter died at the scene at 4 pm yesterday while the 28-year-old mother succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at Duchess of Kent Hospital.

Sandakan district police chief ACP George Abd Rakman said the motorcycle, carrying the family of three, was travelling from Sandakan town towards Beluran.

The car was heading in the opposite direction, coming from Bukit Garram towards the town.

“The crash occurred when the motorcycle went into the oncoming lane in an attempt to overtake another car, and collided with the car,” he said in a statement.

The motorcyclist and the car driver were also injured and received treatment at Duchess of Kent Hospital.

George added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
