KUALA LUMPUR — Two races at the Malaysian Grand Prix were delayed earlier today after a serious crash involving newly crowned Moto3 world champion José Antonio Rueda and Swiss rider Noah Dettwiler during the sighting lap at the Sepang International Circuit (SIC).
Race organisers said the incident occurred when Dettwiler, representing CIP Green Power, was riding slowly on the inside of the track before being struck from behind by Rueda of Red Bull KTM Ajo at Turn 3.
The impact caused both riders to be thrown off their bikes, sustaining injuries in the process.
Medical teams at the circuit responded immediately, administering first aid at the scene before both riders were airlifted by helicopter to a nearby hospital for further treatment. Their current conditions have yet to be confirmed, Bernama reported.
Rueda, who started the day in third position on the grid, had already sealed the Moto3 world championship title after the Indonesian Grand Prix on October 5. Dettwiler was set to start from 25th.
Following the crash, the Moto3 race — originally scheduled for 12pm — was pushed to 1:45pm, with the total number of laps reduced from 15 to 10.
The MotoGP race will proceed as planned at 3pm, while the Moto2 race has been rescheduled to 4:30pm. — October 26, 2025
