TAWAU: A 19-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision involving a Perodua Axia at Batu 3, Jalan Apas, here, at about 12.30pm on Friday.
Tawau Fire and Rescue Station chief Jemishin Ujin said the victim, identified as Mohd Adrian, was pronounced dead at the scene by Health Ministry medical personnel.
He said the car’s 31-year-old female driver and 40-year-old female front passenger sustained minor injuries, while the passenger was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be freed by firefighters using hydraulic rescue equipment.
Jemishin said five firefighters led by Senior Fire Officer I Ahmad Pramuja Zainadun arrived at the scene seven minutes after receiving an emergency call at 12.33pm and handed the rescued passenger over to medical personnel for further treatment.
Initial information indicated that the car was making a U-turn when the motorcycle allegedly collided with it, but Tawau police chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said a media statement was not yet available as investigations were ongoing.
