Kota Kinabalu: A 21-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a road accident involving a car on Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen early Thursday morning.

Acting Kota Kinabalu Police Chief Supt Syed Lot Syed Ab Rahman said police received a report on the incident, which occurred on the bridge along Jalan Tun Fuad Stephen at about 1am.

The accident involved a Perodua Bezza driven by a 20-year-old local woman and a Yamaha 135LC motorcycle ridden by the local man.

Preliminary investigations found the car was travelling from the city centre towards Telipok when the motorcycle behind it is believed to have lost control and struck the rear right side of the vehicle before skidding onto the road.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was confirmed dead at the scene by medical personnel from Queen Elizabeth II Hospital, while the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
