Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old motorcyclist succumbed to serious head injuries after he crashed into a lorry at Km 15, Jalan Lama Papar-Kinabalu, Monday.

District Police Chief DSP Kamaruddin Ambo Sakka said the 7.30am incident occurred when the victim, a City Hall (DBKK) employee, was on the way to work from Kampung Darat Sabang, Bongawan to Kota Kinabalu.

Upon reaching the scene, the deceased who was travelling on the left lane crashed into a lorry that was attempting to make a U-turn from the opposite lane and into the left lane.

“The lorry driven by a 65-year-old man was heading to Penampang from Kampung Mangis.

“Due to the short distance, the victim was unable to avoid and ended up hitting the left site of the lorry,” he added.

Kamaruddin said the victim suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead by a Papar Hospital Medical Officer who was at the scene, while the driver escaped unscathed.

The victim’s body was brought to the hospital’s Forensic Unit for post-mortem and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
