Drunk driver fined RM10,000, jailed one day

Tenom: A 36-year-old local man was sentenced by the Tenom Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol above the permitted limit.

Jeirrey Sumi was sentenced to one day in prison and fined RM10,000, with an additional jail term to be imposed if he fails to pay the fine.

The case was investigated and prosecuted under Section 45(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers offences related to driving while under the influence of alcohol.

Tenom District Police Chief Supt Azmir Abd Razak said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) would continue to intensify enforcement operations against drink-driving offences.

He said firm action would be taken against those who violate road safety laws to protect all road users.

The public is advised not to drive after consuming alcohol and to comply with traffic regulations at all times for the safety of everyone.
