PAPAR: A 165-square-metre mural showcasing Papar’s sociocultural identity now greets visitors at the entrance of the Papar District Office, unveiled as part of a Merdeka Month tribute to the district’s heritage and diversity.
The Papar Sejahtera mural was produced through a collaboration between the Information Department’s Visual Communication and Design Division and Nippon Paint in conjunction with the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy, here, Saturday.
Designer Officer Adleen Haikal Abd Aziz said the artwork was more than just decoration, describing it as a visual storytelling piece that captures the essence of Papar through images reflecting its people, traditions and way of life.
“The mural is not just an artwork, but a medium to introduce the identity and sociocultural values of Papar to the community and visitors,” he said, adding that every element was carefully chosen to represent the district’s diversity and heritage.
The mural’s unveiling was the centrepiece of a lively morning that also saw participants take part in the Langkah Jiwa Merdeka walking convoy, tracing a route around Papar while handing out flags to residents along the way.
The walkabout also served as a grassroots call to action, encouraging Papar residents to fly the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flag in conjunction with National Month and Sabah Day 2026.
