Matunggong district bid nears final hurdle

MATUNGGONG: The bid to elevate Matunggong from a sub-district to a full district has entered its final stage, with only the boundary agreement with Kota Marudu and Kudat left to resolve, said State Women, Health and People’s Wellbeing Minister Datuk Julita Majungki.

The Matunggong Assemblywoman said the process could move into its next phase once the boundary lines were settled.

“The effort is now very close to the final stage. Once an agreement on the boundary lines is reached, we can proceed to the next phase,” she said when attending the Kandawayon Polling District Centre (PDM) Kaamatan Thanksgiving Celebration here, recently.

“As an elected representative who is part of the government, we have greater access to help move this matter forward. However, all processes must be carried out in accordance with the established administrative procedures and requirements,” she said.

Julita said the Kandawayon PDM and the other 11 PDMs in Matunggong would be given priority in development applications based on the needs of their respective areas.

She said this included applications for community facilities, which would be assessed according to the scale of the projects and the appropriate allocation channels.

At the same event, 10 former members of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku, here, led by former Star State Strategic Director Dr Paul Porodong, submitted applications to join the Parti Bersatu Sabah.

Julita, who is also PBS Secretary-General, welcomed the move, calling it a sign of confidence in PBS’ struggle and the party’s continued efforts to represent the people of Matunggong.
