Her wedding day was supposed to be one of the happiest days of her life. Instead, it became the day one of her closest friends realized how little their friendship seemed to matter.
According to XUAN解忧树洞, he had invited only two close friends to her wedding because she wanted to keep things simple. Later, it became clear that “simple” meant asking her friends to handle many of the wedding duties.
One friend was asked to take photos. The other was asked to do her makeup.
Neither of them was a professional.
The friend responsible for makeup was worried about ruining such an important day and had initially refused. But the bride kept saying it was fine and that she trusted her. Eventually, she agreed.
She even reminded the bride that a wedding only happens once and that some expenses were not worth saving.
The bride simply smiled and said she trusted her.
On the wedding morning, she arrived early to help with the makeup. She did not even know how to style bridal hair properly, so she watched TikTok tutorials and tried to learn how to create the hairstyle while getting the bride ready.
After finishing the makeup, she also took countless photos for her.
She had only worn a simple T shirt that day, thinking everything would be finished once the bride was ready.
But later, she was suddenly asked to help prepare the groom and join the brothers for the traditional car activities.
That was when something finally clicked.
She was not really being treated like a bridesmaid.
She felt more like unpaid wedding staff.
There were no bridesmaid dresses and no proper discussion beforehand. Everything was arranged at the last minute, and she simply had to go along with it.
She also ended up helping with the wedding schedule, managing the crowd and even standing at the front during the dinner to help collect red packets.
During the gift giving, the bride gave her RM10 and the groom gave another RM10.
The amount itself was not what hurt.
She had given the bride a generous wedding gift because they had known each other for years.
What really hurt was seeing the bride thank so many people publicly while completely forgetting to mention the two friends who had spent the entire day helping her.
There was not even a simple message afterward saying thank you for the hard work.
Only then did she slowly realize something uncomfortable.
The bride was not short of money. She could spend freely on luxury handbags and buy Chanel without hesitation.
Perhaps she simply did not value spending money or effort on her friends.
The wedding was supposed to celebrate friendship and love, but the experience made one friend feel like nothing more than a way to cut wedding costs.
She never confronted the bride or started a fight.
She simply stepped back from the friendship.
Because friendship has never been about the amount in an envelope.
It is about whether someone makes others feel valued, appreciated and respected.
