SHAH ALAM - The suspension of My E.G. Sdn Bhd (MYEG) and Zetrix AI Bhd as Road Transport Department (JPJ) collection agents took effect on Oct 5, after RM314 million in government revenue collected through their services remained unremitted.
The companies, which operate under the MYEG Group, had collected payments for services including road tax and driving licence renewals and traffic summonses.
How did the arrears arise?
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the RM314 million in outstanding revenue accumulated between May 19 and Sept 30.
The money had been collected on behalf of JPJ but was not transferred to the Transport Ministry (MOT) Accounting Office’s Main Revenue Account. The figure was higher than the more than RM200 million reported earlier.
Loke also rejected reports suggesting the government had allowed the arrears to accumulate for three years.
“The three-year figure is inaccurate. The outstanding arrears began accumulating in May of this year, a period of just a few months, not three years.
“While there had been occasional arrears in the past, the parties involved would typically settle them after receiving reminder notices,” he said at a press conference yesterday.
MYEG and Zetrix AI had been operating as JPJ collection agents under a three-year arrangement that began in May 2023. However, Loke said the RM314 million figure specifically covered arrears accumulated from May this year.
What action did the government take?
Loke said MOT and JPJ had taken several steps to recover the money since May. These included issuing 35 reminder notices, setting settlement deadlines and conducting four engagement sessions with stakeholders, including the Finance Ministry.
On Aug 21, the company submitted a post-dated cheque for RM231 million, dated Sept 30, to settle the arrears owed at that time. However, Loke said the bank did not process the cheque when it was presented on Sept 30, following instructions from the company.
The government subsequently suspended payment services through MYEG and Zetrix AI from 12.01am on Oct 5. Loke said the companies must settle the full amount immediately.
“The deadline is immediately. There should not be any reason. They are supposed to collect the payments and then pay the money, so they have to pay it.
“We have repeatedly given them many opportunities. We have issued numerous reminder notices and held several meetings over the past few months.
“They are merely collection agents. The money does not belong to them; it all belongs to the people who made the payments,” he said.
Will JPJ services be affected?
The government said the suspension would not stop JPJ services from being provided. The public can continue making payments and accessing services through the MyJPJ application, JPJ Public Portal, physical counters, kiosks and other official platforms.
For non-Malaysians paying traffic summonses at Malaysia-Singapore border entry points, Mobile JPJ Counters are available from 8am to 10pm at Kompleks Sultan Abu Bakar and Bangunan Sultan Iskandar in Johor.
For the KPP01 computerised theory test, bookings made through MYEG before Oct 5 can proceed as usual. New bookings must be made through 85 approved driving institutes authorised to conduct the test.
Why did political links become an issue?
Questions were also raised over alleged political links involving the companies. Loke said such links were irrelevant to the government’s decision and that all collection agents were treated equally.
“You have to ask them, I do not want to associate them with any political party. My role here is to treat every company, every agent the same. Whether they are linked to anyone is irrelevant to me.
“One thing is certain: they have no connection whatsoever to my party. But which party they are linked to is not our consideration.
“Our consideration is the facts: whether there are outstanding arrears that should have been paid to the government, whether their obligations have been fulfilled and whether action needs to be taken,” he said.
Loke also criticised calls on social media for him to resign over the suspension.
“When action is taken, the ‘ceplos-ceplos’ (cybertroopers) immediately say I should resign. The company that did not pay is not being asked to take responsibility, but the minister is the one being asked to face action. What kind of logic is that?” he questioned.
What has Zetrix AI said?
On Oct 6, Zetrix AI said it had submitted a proposed solution to the government to address the outstanding remittances.
The company said its immediate priority was to resolve its obligations and work towards restoring the affected services, subject to the relevant approvals.
“As a provider of JPJ services since 2000, we understand the importance of ensuring these essential services remain accessible, reliable and convenient for the public.
“The group recognises its responsibility to customers and remains committed to fulfilling its obligations to the government,” it said.
Zetrix AI also said customers who had accessed affected JPJ services before the suspension could be assured that their transactions had been processed and fulfilled.
What happened to Zetrix AI shares?
Zetrix AI’s shares fell sharply on Oct 5 following news of the RM314 million arrears and suspension.
The stock dropped five sen or 43.48 per cent, to 6.5 sen, its lowest level in 13 years, with 1.37 billion shares changing hands.
The company’s shares had reached 89.5 sen on April 21. Since then, they had fallen about 93 per cent, reducing its market capitalisation by approximately RM6.6 billion.
Zetrix AI was founded by Wong Thean Soon, also known as TS Wong, in 2000 and was rebranded from My EG Services Bhd to Zetrix AI in July 2025.
An exchange filing showed Wong held a 10.07 per cent stake, comprising a 6.06 per cent direct interest and a 4.01 per cent indirect interest through Asia Internet Holdings Sdn Bhd, down from an estimated 30 per cent stake at the end of August.
What happens next?
Loke said MOT and JPJ would take legal action to recover the full RM314 million.
The suspension will remain until the outstanding amount is settled, after which the government will consider whether to restore the affected services.
Meanwhile, Zetrix AI said it was working towards resolving the outstanding obligations and restoring the services, subject to government approval.
