Manchester City attacker Raheem Sterling has axed the PR agency which leaked news about him getting the England captaincy.
Sterling admitted he was fuming" after PR company Purple put out a story that he was getting the armband to mark his 50th cap against Holland in June.
Sterling spoke to England boss Gareth Southgate to reassure him that it was done without his permission as the story led to embarrassment within the FA.
It is now understood that Sterling and his representatives have severed all ties with Purple and are considering alternative arrangements, says the Mirror.
Sterling is one of the most high-profile and successful Premier League stars and at the forefront of England's revolution under Southgate.
