Nabawan land scheme review underway before title decisions

Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Government is assessing land under the Nabawan Scheme before deciding on the issuance of titles or grants to eligible villagers, the State Legislative Assembly was told on Monday.

Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar (pic) said the land remained under evaluation and resolution, with two committees established to review the status of the scheme.

He said the Nabawan Scheme Land Development Technical Committee would reassess and carry out new demarcation of the entire scheme area, including developed and undeveloped land, while identifying areas cleared and cultivated by residents.

Jamawi said the findings would be mapped and presented to the Nabawan Scheme Land Development Steering Committee before being submitted to the State Cabinet for consideration and approval.

He said the ministry was committed to resolving the issue, which had continued for more than 58 years since the scheme was established, with further updates expected by November following a six-month review process.
