National Cooperative Day event records RM48.3 million sales, business prospects

Kota Kinabalu: The recent three-day National Cooperative Day (HKN) event at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), here, recorded a total of RM48,370,833 in sales and business prospects.

Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick said of the amount, RM46.9 million was business prospects through 44 business matching sessions.

“The sales of cooperatives or entrepreneurs who participated in the HKN exhibition amounted to RM1,215,090, Madani Sales RM154,284 and food truck sales RM101,459,” he said in a statement, Wednesday.

“The total amount of cash sales was RM1,470,832.

Some 219 booths by government agencies, the private sector, entrepreneurs and cooperatives were involved in sales carnivals and exhibition.

Various entrepreneurship-related activities were held, including Pocket Talk, business advisory services, inclusive business talks and entrepreneurship quizzes.

In addition, other activities were also conducted, such as artist performances, competitions and talks, among others.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor graced the opening ceremony.

This year, Sabah was chosen as the host for the event.

National Cooperative Month (BKK) theme is “Malaysia Madani The Core of Cooperative Excellence”.

Appreciating and implementing the six cores contained in the concept of a Malaysia Madani, the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Ministry is confident that it can elevate the level of the cooperative movement.

This BKK celebration is a manifestation of the Government’s appreciation and recognition of the national cooperative movement, which has contributed a lot to developing the socio-economics of the people.

The selection of July as the National Cooperative Month (BKK’23) celebration event not only highlights the history of the first cooperative registration in this country but also coincides with the declaration of the first Saturday of July every year as the International Day of Cooperatives by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA).

This year, International Cooperative Day was celebrated on July 1.

Throughout the three-day event, the local community received economic benefits from the involvement of members of cooperatives across the country, such as the hospitality, tourism and transport industries.

In addition, the cooperative movement throughout the country successfully increased the network of cooperation with various parties to engage in multiple business activities and increase the cooperative’s income.

The closing ceremony of the BKK’23 on July 30 is expected to be officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
