
Kota Kinabalu: More than 600,000 people are set to participate in the state-level National Sports Day event on October 10.
Youth Development, Sports Advancement and Creative Economy Minister Datuk Nizam Abu Bakar Titingan made the announcement after chairing the main committee meeting on Thursday.
“Our target is to mobilise 17 per cent of Sabah’s 3.83 million population, bringing together 651,610 participants across the State to contribute toward the national fitness goal.”He said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor will officiate the state-level event at the Tuaran Town Ceremonial Ground, which also serves as the venue for the West Coast Division.
“At the same day and time, we will also hold the National Sports Day celebration at the district level in Tawau, Sandakan, Beaufort, Kudat and Keningau.
He urged all Sabahans to participate and ensure the event’s success.
“As Chairman of the Main Committee, I invite all Sabahans to unite and make our state-level National Sports Day a resounding success under the theme ‘AI Sports and Technology’.
“In welcoming this National Sports Day, we have many activities that we have prepared such as premier aerobics, fun runs, chess and carrom competitions, aerobathon, traditional sports, E-sports and many more.
“Through community-based sports, we aim to unite Sabah’s diverse, multi-racial, and multi-religious population while promoting health, well-being and lasting harmony.
“Therefore, we encourage all parties and communities to join us and participate in the activities lined up for National Sports Day in Sabah,” he added.
Also at the meeting were Assistant Minister Dato’ Seri Anil Sandhu, permanent secretary Datuk Mansur Asun and Sabah Sports Board chairman Syed Ahmad Syed Abas.
