NEGERI Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun has urged voters and party workers to prepare for the possibility of a state election following an intensifying political dispute that has shaken the state administration.
Without specifying when a poll could be held, the Negeri Sembilan Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman said the unfolding political crisis had caught the coalition leadership by surprise and left many within the government deeply unsettled.
“I want the people of Negeri Sembilan, the residents of this state, to be prepared to face an election. They are dissatisfied. Today, statement after statement is being issued, as though we are forced to accept it.
“But we are human too. I am human too. I also feel wounded. I also feel saddened. My comrades-in-struggle were equally shocked.
“The incident that took place early in the morning happened without any matter being communicated to the other colleagues. This is something entirely outside our plans or knowledge,” he said during the Pakatan Harapan leadership rally at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Stadium grounds in Paroi on Wednesday.
Also present were DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu and PH secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
Earlier on Wednesday, Negeri Sembilan UMNO announced that, while it would continue to support the Unity Government at the federal level, its decision to withdraw support for the Menteri Besar remained unchanged.
Aminuddin, who is also a PKR vice-president, subsequently called on PH’s state machinery to strengthen its organisation and prepare for any political eventuality in the coming months.
“I therefore hope everyone understands that what matters now, as party members, party supporters and even fence-sitters, is that we strengthen our machinery.
“We must strengthen our ranks. Amanah, PKR and DAP must be ready under any circumstances, both in Negeri Sembilan and in Malaysia. We must be prepared. We must work as one team to ensure victory in the election,” he said.
The Menteri Besar also voiced frustration that political tensions were escalating at a time when global economic uncertainty was already placing growing pressure on Malaysia’s economy.
“In today’s uncertain global economic climate, we can no longer operate as usual. Today is not about talking politics, politics, politics.
“We want to talk about how we can win the hearts of the people by reducing their burdens, isn’t that right? That is what we must do,” he said. - May 7, 2026
