Residents who lived in the same HDB flat as a 72-year-old man in Singapore were shocked to discover that he had died at home with no one by his side.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the incident took place at Block 530 Ang Mo Kio Avenue 10 on Monday (Sept 21), where neighbours saw blood flowing out from under main gate into the common walkway.
Felt something amiss
According to a resident who declined to be named, he said his mother last saw the septuagenarian on Sept 17.
He added that the old man had a habit of switching on the lights and television in the living room, and would not usually leave the windows and doors open.
Warning bells first went off on the evening of Sept 18 when the resident’s family noticed that the old man’s house was completely dark and saw no signs of him over the weekend.
On Monday afternoon, their noses caught a foul stench coming from the old man’s unit and saw a blood puddle underneath the gate, causing them to lodge a police report.
Had poor mental health
The resident also told Shin Min that the old man struggled with mental health issues and often had social workers dropping by to check on him.
The 72-year-old man was also said to have been living alone for five years after all of his family members moved out.
When contacted by Mothership, police confirmed the incident and said the victim was found motionless and pronounced dead by an SCDF paramedic.
No foul play was detected and police are currently investigating.
