Craving a classic TV experience? Sign up for Netflix with ads when it rolls out in Thailand in 2027.

We all love nostalgia. We (I mean those who are more advanced in years) long for the good ol’ days. We see it everywhere: legacy sequels, the comeback of early 2000s transparent designs, Noah Wyle. One of the things that have disappeared into time are video rental places, hallowed establishments where people go on a Friday night to figure out which movies they wanted to watch over the weekend. That’s been replaced by the arrival of the many streaming services now available to us, with Netflix having started it all.

But it seems that the streaming giant is offering a dose of nostalgia for its subscribers with a brand new tier that it’s introducing next year. If you were watching Bridgerton or Stranger Things thinking, “Man, I wish this was more like a classic TV experience where commercials interrupted the show”, then rejoice, because Netflix with ads is rolling out in Thailand in 2027.

Netflix launched the ads plan back in 2022 in 12 countries, giving viewers a chance to opt for a cheaper subscription albeit with, well, commercials. According to the Netflix Reddit, ads last 15-30 seconds, with about three ads playing for each hour of a show or movie. Users seem to have also tried circumventing the ads but nothing worked, though the post was made three years ago so something may have changed since then.

The pricing for the ad tier in Thailand hasn’t been revealed. Currently, the cheapest plan users can go for is Mobile, priced at THB 99 per month, which entails the subscriber to watching on one device at 480p. The ad tier will probably be priced higher than the Mobile Plan but cheaper than the Basic Plan, which currently costs THB 169 per month.

If the ad tier is similar to the US, then there’s also one major caveat: the entire Netflix library won’t be available to subscribers at this tier. To be fair, it isn’t a lot: What’s On Netflix reported only 59 movies and shows out of the total 8,100 titles were unavailable to ad tier subscribers for April.

Netflix has yet to announce the specific date for the rollout other than it will happen sometime in 2027. The pricing also hasn’t been revealed.
