NDMC Vice-Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal on Sunday led a plantation drive at Malcha Marg in Chanakyapuri under the ongoing ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign and urged citizens to take an active role in environmental conservation and biodiversity protection.

The programme, organised by the Diplomatic Enclave Owners & Residents Association (DEORA), saw participation from local residents, RWA representatives and NDMC officials. Participants planted saplings in their mothers’ names, promoting environmental responsibility and social awareness.

Before the drive, Chahal interacted with residents and RWA members to understand civic issues and directed NDMC officials to ensure their prompt resolution. Chahal described ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ as a people’s movement to raise environmental awareness. He said NDMC is conducting plantation drives every Sunday across its area and that several departments are working together to ensure the survival and upkeep of saplings. He also announced a special plantation programme on June 5 to mark World Environment Day.

Highlighting the impact of the ongoing heatwave, Chahal distributed earthen water bowls for birds and appealed to residents to place them outside homes, in parks and in community spaces. — TNS
