MANILA, Philippines — While Tropical Depression Ada would no longer directly affect the country’s weather, a new low-pressure area (LPA) has been spotted off Mindanao, the national weather bureau said on Wednesday.
Weather specialist Loriedin Dela Cruz-Galicia of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said in a 5 a.m. briefing that Ada was seen to downgrade into an LPA either today or Thursday morning.
Estimated to be 1,215 kilometers east of Northern Luzon, Ada is moving east-southeastward at 20 kilometers per hour (kph) while packing maximum sustained winds of 55kph near the center and gustiness of up to 70kph, the state-run weather agency said.
Meanwhile, the Pagasa forecaster said the new weather disturbance (LPA) was still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) at 2,355 kilometers east-southeast of Mindanao.
Dela Cruz-Galicia said that it may have a brief entrance, but the weather agency’s data and analysis suggest it is more likely to stay outside PAR.
Pagasa said the northeast monsoon, locally known as ‘amihan’, has been prevailing in most parts of the country, bringing overcast skies with isolated light rains particularly over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, the rest of Central Luzon, the rest of CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon.
The rest of the country, meanwhile, would have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers and thunderstorms due to the localized thunderstorms, it added.
