New OFW transit lounge opens at NAIA Terminal 3

A NEW transit lounge for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) has been opened at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) opened the lounge in partnership with New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC).

“The facility has beds and massage chairs, and it can accommodate up to 26 OFWs at a time,” the OWWA said in Filipino and English on Facebook on Saturday.

The maximum stay in the facility is three hours “so that many can benefit,” the OWWA said.

OFWs departing for work abroad or those who just arrived and have a connecting flight in NAIA Terminal 3 can use the facility, provided they present documents proving they are OFWs and confirming their travel, the OWWA said.

The new facility is part of the expansion of OFW lounges under President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration, according to OWWA.

“There are already lounges at NAIA Terminal 1, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, and Clark International Airport,” the OWWA said.

“We continue to improve the facilities at the airport to provide OFWs a proper and comfortable place to rest while waiting for their flights. We recognize the effort and sacrifice that comes with their journey,” OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne Caunan said.

She thanked the NNIC for its collaboration on the facility.

The agency added that distressed OFWs who have just arrived and need help can approach the OWWA Airport Arrival Assistance Desk at the arrival area “after Customs at NAIA Terminals 1 and 3.” They can ask for help with transportation, food, or temporary accommodation at the desk, “pursuant to the rules of OWWA,” it said.

“The OWWA will continue to collaborate with the NNIC and other partners to improve the facilities and services supporting OFWs in their departure from and return to the country,” it added.
