RANAU: Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Abidin Madingkir said participation of parents in determining the future of their children is crucial especially since children spend more time at home than at school.
He said while the role of teachers is important in shaping the personality of students while in school, parents’ roles are bigger than ever now, as children spend more time learning at home.
“Students’ time in school is very limited while a huge portion of their time is spent at home, and the people responsible for them are their parents, apart from other family members.
“That’s why we want to give appreciation to the role of parents in caring for their children’s education. We hope with the new ongoing school, our children will be able to study in the classrooms in a conducive manner,” he said.
Abidin, who is also Paginatan Assemblyman, distributed 120 school bags and stationery to school children from SK Kandawayon, SK Tiang dan SK Longut in the “Jom Balik Sekolah” held here.
He said the contribution of school bags is a joint initiative by the UPPM Paginatan and the Society of Hope Sabah to ease the burden of parents.
“We also hope that this gesture would lift the children’s spirit in starting their schooling this time. We hope that our children today will one day become quality individuals who will be our future leaders,” he said.
Abidin also hoped other corporate groups, NGOs and individuals would emulate the deed by the organisers through their corporate social responsibility (CSR).
The parents thanked the contributors for making the initiative to lighten the burden of parents of the schoolchildren.
Also present were Paginatan CDO Jipili Sigal, Star Paginatan Secretary Juis Konsuling, headmasters, teachers and parents.
