A new New York Knicks documentary is officially in the works, with Ben Stiller set to direct a multi-part series for HBO and A24 following the franchise’s historic championship season.
Stiller, one of the Knicks’ most devoted celebrity supporters, shared details of the project during an appearance on The Roommates Show with Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Matt “Matty Ice” Hillman.
The documentary will explore the broader story of the Knicks, tracing the franchise’s journey from the iconic teams of the 1990s through to the championship-winning campaign that finally ended decades of frustration for fans.

Ben Stiller explains why the documentary will cover more than just one season
While the Knicks’ title run provides a natural climax, Stiller revealed that the project is designed to tell a much larger story about the organization and its place in New York sports culture.
“Obviously I’ve been shooting some stuff on my phone, but it’s kind of gonna be about all eras of the Knicks. There’s a culmination here of something that has been going on for a long time, so it’s super exciting,” Stiller said on Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart’s podcast, The Roommates Show.
The comments suggest the series will focus not only on the championship team, but also on the decades of near-misses, heartbreak and anticipation that preceded the franchise’s return to the top.
That long wait finally ended when New York defeated the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, securing the organization’s first championship in 53 years.
Stiller says access to the Knicks will be a major part of the project
The documentary is being produced in partnership with HBO, A24 and the NBA, and is expected to feature extensive behind-the-scenes footage from around the team.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series will include unprecedented access and material that has not previously been seen by the public.
Stiller hinted that filming is far from finished, revealing that production is expected to continue into next season.
“And it’s great to have had all this access to your team, and we’re gonna probably be shooting a little bit more during next season,” he said.
The Severance executive producer also confirmed that player interviews will form a significant part of the documentary as work continues over the coming year.
“I could not be more excited. This is a dream project, so cannot wait.”
For Knicks fans, the timing could hardly be better. After finally witnessing the franchise end its championship drought, they will soon get a behind-the-scenes look at how one of basketball’s most storied organizations reached the top once again.
