The New York Knicks are already preparing for next season, less than two weeks after winning the NBA championship.

Head coach Mike Brown and key players Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby are not going anywhere.

The Knicks are not expected to be busy in free agency or the trade market after winning their first title in 53 years.

However, they have already re-signed one player to a $10 million contract, even though he did not play in the NBA Finals.

Here is everything we know about Mohamed Diawara’s deal to stay at Madison Square Garden beyond this summer.

Knicks player Mohamed Diawara earns $10m extension

The Los Angeles Clippers selected Diawara with the 51st overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft and immediately traded him to the Knicks.

Diawara played 69 regular-season games for the Knicks in his rookie year, averaging 3.6 points and 1.4 rebounds.

However, the Frenchman occasionally showed potential, including his career-high 18-point game against the New Orleans Pelicans.

Despite playing just 43 minutes in the playoffs and not touching the floor during the Finals, the Knicks have offered him a new contract.

Shams Charania has reported that Diawara “intends to sign a multiyear, $10-plus million deal” with the Knicks this summer.

The power forward will be optimistic that Brown rewards him with more playing time in his second season in the NBA.

Diawara actually had decent efficiency, shooting 42% from the field, so that would not be a total surprise.

The 21-year-old could also benefit from Mitchell Robinson’s potential departure, as the Knicks look to avoid the second apron.

Having been impressed by Diawara’s performance in limited minutes, Knicks fans now have another reason to look forward to next season.
