KUALA LUMPUR – Nearly 150 creators, partners and special guests gathered at the Tropicana Golf & Country Resort on October 1 for the Newswav Creator Awards 2025, an evening marked by recognition and inspiration that reflected the country’s vibrant creator community.
The event brought together household names and emerging voices from Newswav’s platform.
Among those present were award-winning investigative journalist R. Nadeswaran, comic artists Ernest Ng of Don’t Like That Bro and Daniel Mok of Mokumentary, finance educator Fong Wei Ziet of Ziet Invests, and the team behind the 后起之秀 podcast. Malek Ali, founder of BFM Radio, was among the award presenters.
Academic partners, including INTI International University & Colleges, Taylor’s University and Asia Pacific University, also took part, underscoring how Malaysia’s higher education institutions are increasingly engaging with digital creators.
Newswav chief executive officer Janice Chin delivered one of the night’s speeches, offering both gratitude and optimism.
She reflected on Newswav’s growth since its early days, outlined the size and diversity of its audience, and shared a “cheat sheet” of tactics employed by winning creators.
Looking ahead, Chin previewed the platform’s 2025 initiatives and teased new AI-powered innovations and monetisation opportunities for video creators in 2026.
The awards ceremony recognised top performers across multiple categories. JK Joseph walked away with the Creator of the Year 2024 award as well as Most Popular Content. He also joined Kpost and TheRealNehruism in winning Outstanding Creator.
