Liverpool legend John Aldridge believes it is a good thing that Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have a rivalry.

Mane was furious with Salah for not passing to him during an open opportunity against Burnley at the weekend.

Boss Jurgen Klopp laughed off the exchange and Aldridge believes such competitiveness will only improve both players.

He wrote in his Liverpool Echo column: "Mohamed Salah's had the Golden Boot for the last two years. He knows what a privilege that is.

"I was lucky to do it with Liverpool and it gives you the desire to do it year in, year out.

"Sadio Mane got it last year when they shared it. He knows how prestigious it is too.

"It's healthy rivalry between them.

"But at the end of the day you have to know when another player is in a much better position and you have to give the ball to them.

"Mane's reaction was just pure frustration that he could have had a second goal.

"If the shot from Salah had gone in the back of the net, you can't say anything about it.

"But we got away with it on Saturday. In other games, like Man City, if someone's got a tap in just give it to them and make sure we get the goal.

"It's happened a few times with Salah. He does tend to be fixated with shooting at times in the 18-yard box.

"At the same time, Salah does lay things on. But he's just got to know when to be clinical, and if he's at an acute angle, give it to someone else.

"It's easy to say because I used to be like that to be quite honest!

"But I'd always like to think that if someone was in a better position, I'd slip them in.

"There'll be no problem and they can put it behind them.

"You put it to bed early doors, make sure they have a little chat and get it out in the open. It's gone then."
