Rumours of firing outside renowned Bollywood actor-comedian Kapil Sharma’s residence in Amritsar spread quickly on Monday, prompting the Commissionerate Police to issue a clarification.
Police officials, after verification, clarified that no such incident had taken place.
However, the rumours quickly gained traction on social media because Kapil Sharma’s Canada-based Kap’s Café was targeted in multiple shooting incidents over the past year.
Kapil Sharma’s café is located in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada. The café came under attack in July, August, and October 2025.
In the July incident, attackers allegedly fired nine rounds at the café, with alleged Khalistani separatist Harjeet Singh Laddi claiming responsibility for the attack.
In another incident in August, several bullet marks and shattered glass panes were found on the café premises. At that time, a viral social media post linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and gangster Goldy Dhillon claimed responsibility for the shooting.
The café was again targeted in October 2025, when another shooting was reported. Gangsters associated with the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, including Goldy Dhillon, allegedly claimed responsibility.
Amid the circulation of fresh rumours in Amritsar on Monday, Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar urged people not to believe rumours and to verify information before sharing and circulating it.
ACP West Kamaljit Aulakh said the police conducted a thorough verification and found no firing incident outside Kapil Sharma’s residence. Police appealed to residents not to spread or believe unverified information and to rely only on official updates.
