No respite: Haze persists across Selangor at 8 am

SHAH ALAM, Oct 9 - A total of 38 air quality monitoring stations across Peninsular Malaysia recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8 am today, with Seremban registering the highest reading of 186.

According to the Malaysian Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS), all eight monitoring stations in Johor recorded unhealthy readings, with Segamat registering an API of 183, followed by Tangkak (181), Pasir Gudang (179), Kluang (176), Larkin (172), Batu Pahat and Pengerang (169 each), and Kota Tinggi (164).

In Selangor, Johan Setia recorded the highest API reading of 182, followed by Shah Alam (178), Petaling Jaya and Banting (169 each), Klang (168), and Kuala Selangor (145).

Other areas recording unhealthy air quality included Nilai (183), Batu Muda (172) and Cheras (170).

Meanwhile, another 30 monitoring stations recorded moderate API readings.

API readings between 101 and 200 are classified as unhealthy, while readings between 51 and 100 are categorised as moderate.

Following the haze situation, all schools in Johor, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya have been ordered to close from today.

Education Minister Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek said the decision was made in view of the prevailing haze conditions to safeguard the safety and health of students and school staff.
