Kota Kinabalu: Parti Warisan has lodged a police report over a poster circulating on social media claiming that a “Solidarity Gathering for Shafie” will be held at Padang Merdeka here on Aug 2.
Warisan Secretary-General Loretto S. Padua Jr said the poster was false and had been spread by irresponsible parties.
“The party had never planned to organise such a gathering,” he said in a statement.
Loretto said the false information could mislead the public and tarnish the image of Warisan and its President Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.
He urged members of the public, particularly those living outside Kota Kinabalu, not to travel to attend the purported gathering as it does not exist.
“The police report on Thursday was to enable the authorities to investigate the matter,” he said.
On Shafie’s appeal, Loretto said the matter should be allowed to proceed through the proper legal process.
He urged the public not to spread or believe unverified information circulating on social media.
