Kota Kinabalu: There are differing views as to whether a Sabah Head of State can be a non-Muslim in view of the State Constitution being silent on the matter and subsequent appointments since independence being Muslims due purely to convention.
Sabah Syarie Lawyers Association (SSLA) is of the view that the next Governor should be a Muslim aligned with the official state religion.
It’s President Abdul Razak Jamil said although the Sabah Constitution does not stipulate the religion of the Tuan Yang Terutama (TYT), Article 5 (A) states Islam as Sabah’s official religion.
