Not carrying Identity Card: Man fined RM3,000

Kota Kinabalu: A 25-year-old man was on Monday fined RM3,000 or six months’ jail for failing to furnish his identification document when checked by the police, last year.

Rahmat Salleh pleaded guilty before Magistrate Stephanie Sherron Abbie to not carrying an identity card at all times at 6.50pm on Jan 6, 2021 at the roadside of KKIP Timur Sepanggar, Manggatal.

The offence, under Section 25(1)(n) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, provides a fine of between RM3,000 and RM20,000 or up to three years of jail on conviction.

The court was informed by the prosecution that on the said day, the patrolling police inspected a car boarded by three men.

One of the men, later identified as Rahmat, failed to furnish his identity card when asked to do so.

Rahmat requested a lenient sentence.

In another case, a 26-year-old man was fined RM100 or one day jail for fraudulently having RM30,000 in his bank account, four years ago.

Md Iswandy Ibrahim admitted to having the money belonging to one Ahamat Omar on June 11, 2018, which he failed to give a satisfactory explanation on how he obtained them.

He had committed an offence under Section 22A (1) of the Minor Offences Ordinance which provides for a fine of up to RM100 or up to three months jail or both on conviction.

When asked by the court how the money ended up in his bank account, Iswandy said he did not know because his ATM card was lost.

Unrepresented, Iswandy, who came from Kuching, Sarawak requested leniency.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man was charged with assaulting his brother two years ago.

Mohan Singh Ramday Junior pleaded not guilty to causing hurt to one Niki Mohan Singh @ Mohana Singh Ramday, 44, with an iron spade at 2pm on Jan 8, 2020 at the yard of the Teacher Education Institute staff quarters in Luyang.

The charge, under Section 324 of the Penal Code, carries a jail term of up to 10 years or with fine or with whipping or with any two of such punishment on conviction.

The court set July 25 for case management and released the accused on a bail of RM2,500 in two sureties.
